A Few Words

About Us

Established in 2005 by Elizabeth (Lizzy) Monyela, Thuthuzela was initially an orphanage that provided a place of safety for vulnerable children in the Alexandra community. The ages of the children which were cared for at the orphanage, ranged from infants to those of school-going age. The orphanage provided meals, basic pre-school education and counselling to these children.

Today, Thuthuzela runs a fully-fledged day-care centre, in addition to the continued running of the orphanage.

The day-care centre provides meals and basic pre-school education to the children
living at the orphanage and other young children from the Alexandra community. With education being a primary focus area, Thuthuzela also facilitates the transportation of children to schools in
surrounding areas

Governance Structure of Thuthuzela

Our carers love what they do, and that's what makes them so special.

In terms of Thuthuzela’s Constitution, which was adopted in April 2012, there are two-tiers of
governance, namely: (i) ordinary members; and (ii) members of the management committee.
5.2 There are currently six members of the management committee. Members of the management
committee are tasked with the day-to-day management and operations of Thuthuzela. We have
included, as Annexure B to this proposal document, the details and designation of each of the
members of the management committee. An annual general meeting is held within three months after the end of each financial year (30 June). The business of the annual general meeting shall be, amongst other things, (i) to receive and consider the management committee’s report; (ii) to consider proposed resolutions; (iii) to consider the audited accounts of Thuthuzela; and (iv) to elect the management committee
members for the following year.
